About the Artwork: Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk seldom played together, I thought itfitting to include them both in the same painting. Bird flew in a rarefied air,in which his horn left haunting notes, that generations of jazz musicians lookedto for inspiration. Monk, like Bird, was concerned with growing and enrichinghis musical conception which came out of his life experiences, not from theory.

About This Artwork: After seeing Sonny Rollins live at the Newport Jazz Festivala few years ago, I knew Sonny was one of the few left to carry on the legacy ofMiles, Monk and Bird. I was right. In this painting Sonny is pictured as he dida solo lasting twelve minutes. Not once did he repeat himself.
